A man from north west NSW has been refused bail after Australian Border Force (ABF) and NSW Police officers located 3D printed firearms and live ammunition at his home yesterday.

In March 2025, ABF Investigators commenced an investigation into the alleged importation of firearm parts, ammunition and 3D printing materials by a 19-year-old man.

It will be alleged in court the man was in possession of privately manufactured firearms utilising unlawfully imported parts.

Following extensive enquiries, ABF Investigators – with assistance from NSW Police Force's Oxley Police District – executed a Commonwealth search warrant at a property in Ghoolendaadi, west of Gunnedah.

During a search of the property, officers allegedly located and seized ammunition, a rifle, manufactured pistol barrels, 3D printed firearm parts, a 3D lab printer, and two gel blaster pistols with ammunition.

A 19-year-old man was arrested at the scene and taken to Gunnedah Police Station, where he was charged with intentionally import prohibited tier 2 good without approval, namely firearm parts, contrary to s233BAB(5) of the Customs Act 1901.

The maximum penalty for this offence is 10 years imprisonment.

The man was also charged with three state-based offences, including possess unauthorised pistol, manufacture pistol without a licence or permit, possess a barrel without authority of licence.

He was refused bail to appear before Gunnedah Local Court today (Wednesday 9 April 2025), where he was formally bail refused to reappear at the same court on Tuesday 3 June 2025.
