NEW ZEALAND
Australia and New Zealand have a long history of trade agreements, having first established a
preferential agreement in 1933.
In 1966, Australia and New Zealand entered into the
New Zealand Australia Free Trade Agreement.
The current free trade agreement, the
Australia-New Zealand Closer Economic Relations Trade Agreement (ANZCERTA), entered into force on 1 January 1983.
The
Protocol to ANZCERTA on Acceleration of Free Trade in Goods entered into force on 18 August 1988 and accelerated the elimination of tariffs for all goods to 1 July 1990, ahead of timeframes agreed in the original 1983 ANZCERTA.
An Agreement to Amend Article 3 of ANZCERTA came into effect on 1 January 2007 that provided modern rules of origin arrangements, similar to Australia’s other free trade agreements. It included a schedule of product specific rules of origin and repeal of the ANZCERTA Factory Cost rules of origin from 1 January 2012.
