SmartGates

​​​​​​​Arrivals SmartGates are a 2 Step Process.

Travellers present to an arrival kiosk for step 1 face to passport verification then move to a SmartGate for step 2 identity confirmation.

The Australian Border Force plays a vital role at our airports. SmartGates are Australia’s automated passport control system using facial recognition and your passport to confirm identity.

Arrivals SmartGates are available at these airports.

Anyone over the age of 7 years old with an ePassport can use them. Look for this symbol on the cover.

If you're under 16, a parent or legal guardian must accompany you.

To enter Australia, you need a valid passport, completed Incoming Passenger Card and may need to answer questions for Border officials.

Arrivals SmartGates are a 2 step process.

Step 1 is a Kiosk.

Insert your passport face down with your photo page into the reader.

Push it all the way in and leave it while you answer questions on the screen.

Remove facemasks, hats, sunglasses and other bulky items around your neck.

If successful, a ticket will be printed.

Take the ticket and your passport and keep it with your Incoming Passenger Card.

You will need these later for Border officials.

Wheelchair accessible kiosks are also available.

Step 2 is a SmartGate for facial recognition and identity confirmation.

Step into an available SmartGate, with a green arrow and face the camera.

Stay facing the camera and follow the instructions on the screen.

Only one person can be in the gate.

Keep your baggage close to you, particularly large items and backpacks.

Remove face masks and other items for easier facial recognition.

If successful, proceed to baggage claim.

If unsuccessful you will be directed to an Australian Border Force officer.

After collecting your baggage, proceed to the exit. Hand your SmartGate ticket and Incoming Passenger Card to an Australian Border official.

You have now completed your arrival process into Australia.
