PROHIBITED GOODS

The difference between air or sea cargo and international mail

Importers must use the approved methods when importing prohibited tobacco into Australia. Prohibited tobacco products may only be imported via air or sea cargo.

Air and sea cargo is a port to port delivery supply chain requiring the use of an air waybill or bill of lading. All points of the cargo stream are traceable through the air waybill or bill of lading. You may wish to speak to your supplier about arranging for your tobacco products to be delivered by cargo.

International mail refers to goods consigned through a post office. This includes postal handling and door-to-door delivery. Please note the ABF may seize any prohibited tobacco products that arrive through international mail.

Once your goods are imported into Australia via air or sea cargo they can then enter the domestic mail stream.
