​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​On 27 December 2009 in Cha-am, Phetchaburi, Thailand, Minister for Trade Simon Crean signed the Agreement Establishing the ASEAN-Australia-New Zealand Free Trade Area (AANZFTA).

AANZFTA is a free trade agreement between:

  • Indonesia
  • Laos
  • Malaysia
  • Myanmar
  • New Zealand
  • Philippines
  • Singapore
  • Thailand
  • Vietnam

Second Protocol to amend AANZFTA

On 21 August 2023 in Semarang, Indonesia, Assistant Minister for Foreign Affairs the Hon Tim Watts MP signed the Second Protocol to amend AANZFTA (Second Protocol).

The Second Protocol entered into force on 1 April 2025 for Australia, Brunei Darussalam, Lao PDR, Malaysia, New Zealand and Singapore. It entered into force for Vietnam on 22 August 2025. It entered into force for Thailand on 1 October 2025.

The Second Protocol will enter into force for Cambodia, Indonesia, Myanmar, Philippines 60 days after the date they have notified the depository of the completion of their domestic processes.
