​​The Australian Government is strongly committed to the effective management of the movement of people to protect Australia's interests. The Department provides various systems to ensure rapid processing and screening of all travellers. Information databases support tracking the presence of people who do not comply.

• Advance passenger processing All regular passenger transport airlines operating international flights to and from Australia must use the Advance Passenger Processing (APP) system to report all passengers and crew.
• Collection of passenger name records Information on the collection and use of Passenger Name Record (PNR) data.
• Movement alert list The Movement Alert List (MAL) is administered by the Department of Home Affairs, is a computer database that stores biographic details of identities and travel documents of immigration concern to Australia.
• Movement records Arrival and departure records of travellers to and from Australia dating from 1981, are contained within the Movements Reconstruction database.
• Passenger Movement Charge (PMC) The Passenger Movement Charge (PMC) is a AUD 7​0 cost for the departure of a person from Australia for another country, whether or not the person returns to Australia.​
