Australia Travel Declaration FAQs webpage
What is the Australia Travel Declaration?
The Australian Border Force and Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry are working closely with Qantas to pilot the Australia Travel Declaration (ATD). The ATD is a digital alternative to the paper Incoming Passenger Card (IPC).
Currently passengers arriving in Australia must complete a paper IPC.
You’ve been invited to complete a digital Australia Travel Declaration instead of a paper IPC. You can submit your declaration through the Qantas app up to 72 hours prior to your departure to Australia.
Am I eligible?
Some adult passengers on certain Qantas flights from New Zealand into Brisbane will be asked to fill out a form through the Qantas app. Anyone not invited to apply will continue using the IPC as normal.
You will also need to meet the following criteria to start your Australia Travel Declaration:
- travelling alone
- are 18 years or older
- can complete the declaration in English
- must use the kiosks and SmartGates at the airport
What do I do with my declaration pass?
An officer will scan your declaration pass when you are about to exit the airport. You may also be asked to scan your declaration pass around the baggage carousel. Ensure your phone is charged and you can easily access the pass on your device.
Where can I find my declaration pass?
After completing your Australia Travel Declaration, you can easily access your declaration pass from the home and trip screens within the Qantas app. Additionally, you will receive a confirmation email from the Department of Home Affairs that includes a copy of your declaration pass.
What if there’s a problem with my device?
If your Australia Travel Declaration pass is not accessible, you will be referred to an officer who can help you.
What if I want to change my declaration?
You can change your declaration from the home and trip screens within the Qantas app. Paper Incoming Passenger Cards are available on arrival at the airport in case you have any issues changing your declaration.
Where does my declaration go?
When you submit your declaration, it will be sent to the Australian Government and you will receive your declaration pass. You can view your pass in the Qantas app and in the email sent to your nominated email address from the Department of Home Affairs.
What if my flight is delayed or cancelled?
You can still use your declaration if your flight is delayed and you are still landing at the scheduled Australian international airport. If your flight is cancelled, rescheduled, or you are landing at a different Australian international airport, you may not be able to use the travel declaration and you will need to complete a paper Incoming Passenger Card.
Will my personal information collected through the Australia Travel Declaration be protected?
