FORUM ISLANDS - FIJI

The South Pacific Regional Trade and Economic Co-operation Agreement (SPARTECA) is a non-reciprocal trade agreement. Under SPARTECA, Australia and New Zealand provide preferential rates of customs duty to goods that are produced or manufactured in Forum Island Countries.

SPARTECA came into force for Australia on 30 June 1982. The Parties to SPARTECA are:

  • Australia
  • Cook Islands
  • Federated States of Micronesia
  • Fiji
  • Kiribati
  • Marshall Islands
  • Nauru
  • Niue
  • Papua New Guinea
  • Solomon Islands
  • Samoa
  • Tonga
  • Tuvalu
  • Vanuatu.

Australia does not give preferential treatment to New Zealand under SPARTECA. The agreement's rules of origin allow for the incorporation of material originating in New Zealand into goods produced or manufactured in Forum Island Countries.

SPARTECA can be found at South Pacific Regional Trade and Economic Co-operation Agreement.
