ICS EDI users shall be capable of receiving a CONTRL message.
The use of a CONTRL message does not indicate ICS processing of an interchange, the CONTRL message is generated prior to any processing by the ICS.
A CONTRL Message will be returned to the user automatically in response to a syntactical error in an interchange.
A CONTRL Message will be returned to the user as a receipt for an interchange at the Customs gateway, in response to any interchange containing messages requesting the ICS to undertake a business function.
If there are syntactical errors in the interchange or the messages included in the interchange only one CONTRL message will be returned.
The maximum number of syntax errors returned for an interchange will be 999.
