CONTRL - Customs Syntax and Service Report - (CONTRL)
This message is used by the Department to acknowledge interchange receipt or report any syntactical errors.
All interchanges are screened to ensure compliance with the relevant UN/EDIFACT message specification and that they conform to UN/EDIFACT syntax rules. Any errors detected generate a CONTRL message, notifying rejection and supplying relevant error details.
The CONTRL message will report the reference assigned by the interchange sender and report, as appropriate, the identification details of the message and data element. At this stage of processing rejected messages have not been processed by a Customs application.
An acknowledgement receipt can be requested via the UNB segment. If there are no syntax errors and a receipt has been requested then a CONTRL message will be returned with the appropriate codes.
