Departures

Departures SmartGates can be found at the following international airports:

Any traveller can use the departure SmartGates as long as you are travelling on a valid machine –readable passport.

You will be unable to use SmartGates if:

you are travelling with anyone who will need help to follow the instructions, such as babies, small children or people who need assistance.
you are travelling on a domestic leg of an international flight and your ticket has an orange ‘D’ sticker.

If you are ineligible, go to Manual Passport Control to be processed by an Australian Border Force officer.

Insert your passport into the passport reader face down, with your photo page facing towards the SmartGate
Collect your passport when the passport reader returns it
Step into the departure SmartGate
Remove face masks, hats, sunglasses, headphones and other bulky items around your neck
Religious head coverings can be worn, but must show your face from the bottom of the chin to the top of the forehead. The edges of your face on either side should also be visible.
Look at the camera for image capture
When the SmartGate opens, exit
If you are not successful, you will be manually processed by an Australian Border Force officer.
