Illicit Tobacco Taskforce
The Illicit Tobacco Taskforce (ITTF) was established in 2018 as one of the tobacco-related measures in response to Government funding. The ITTF mission is to protect Commonwealth revenue by targeting, disrupting and dismantling serious actors and organised crime syndicates that deal in illicit tobacco.
The ABF leads the multi-agency ITTF which combines:
- ABF
- Australian Criminal Intelligence Commission
- Australian Taxation Office
- Australian Transaction Reports and Analysis Centre (AUSTRAC)
- Commonwealth Director of Public Prosecutions
- Department of Home Affairs.
The ITTF operates as a mature, integrated taskforce with relationships across Commonwealth and state and territory law enforcement and health agencies. The ITTF strives to be a single point of accountability for targeting the serious organised criminal organisations responsible for the bulk of smuggled illicit tobacco goods. It focuses on targeting domestic growing and manufacturing and disrupting the supply chain for illicit tobacco across the border continuum. It also works to protect the Australian community from serious organised crime and preventing government revenue loss.
